Metal shavings on lifter body when removed

Replaced oil pump ( you were right about the metal shavings billegoat)and flushed out the oil pan. Put everything back together and started her up. :( More noise than before. All the noise is coming from the top end, so I think I’ve probably got some worn out cam bearings. Not sure I’ll be...

Metal shavings on lifter body when removed

I cut open my oil filter today and at first I didn’t see any metal. Then after I let the filter element drain on a rag, I saw it. Not as much as I expected but still there. Is that enough to say the oil pump is bad?

Metal shavings on lifter body when removed

The gauge showed the oil pressure was right in the middle. Not sure how accurate those are. I put three quarts in to make it full. Last oil changed I think I used nearly 6 with new filter. Good point, though. Not sure how much money I want to sink into this 200,000 mile engine. Might be time for...

Metal shavings on lifter body when removed

So, I’ve been chasing a rattle noise in my 2004 3.8L. I finally decided to pull the lifters and check for bad ones and maybe damaged push rods. My son drove this car low on oil several time, but I’ve never found any metal shavings in the oil. Today when I removed the lifters I found several - 5...

Need help with fuel pressure test

So, here’s an update, because I hate it when people ask for help and don’t tell you what happened in the end. I replaced the fuel pump and filter assembly, no change. Meh, it was 15 years old, so no skin off my nose. Next I pulled the plenum, cleaned the IMRC valves and intake ports and...

Need help with fuel pressure test

I'll have to take a look at that. Unless I can find an inline adapter that will fit in between the fuel line and the rail input. Thanks for the link.

Need help with fuel pressure test

I saw that video on you tube as well, but couldn't tell what he had it connected to. There’s nothing there on my car. As far as I know the car is stock, so I’m not sure why this doesn't match what else is out there. This image is the bottom of the left front corner of the fuel rail, right under...

Need help with fuel pressure test

Thanks for the reply MustangDude. I found that thread too, but he never says where it is. I messaged him, but no reply yet. Not holding my breath, as his last time on the forum was 2013. I know everyone says it’s supposed to be on the front of the rail on the driver side, but mine has a Fuel...

Hi all, I’m new to the forum, but not to the automotive world. I’m out of the business now, but I spent 14 years as a tech working mainly on Honda and Acura. I have some experience with older Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda, as well. Now I’ve “inherited” the 04 40th Anniversary V6 I bought for my...

Need help with fuel pressure test

Hi All, new to the forum, but not to working on cars. I have a 2004 Anniversary Edition 3.8L 5spd, and I'm having some trouble with it. I wanted to test fuel pressure, because the car is bogging down when taking off from a stop. You literally have to just push the gas and pray it doesn't stall...
