Or, I guess, the two of us did. In low 80s and moderate NY June humidity, my 3300 mile 2012 3.7 went 13.81 (2.0x 60-ft). Wheel hop, downtrack on the 1-2 shift as well as after launch, was present even on that best run. The factory shifter also is an impediment. The highest MPH, 101+, came on a missed-3rd pass.

I couldn't resist entering the 2012, so I had friend Andy enter my 2003 stock Mach 1. He ran plenty of 13.0s, although one 12.90 in round 1. We both got knocked out in round 1, but that's a risk when you are in unfamiliar cars.....

Car weight was 3550 (with me in it, the drag racing definition). That's 100 more than the Mach 1 !!!!!! Isn't progress great? A 227 cube six makes 286 HP by the traditional HP/weight/MPH method....!

I still can't believe the new base model is putting down times comparable the the '96-'98 Cobra's. Makes me incredibly impatient to build my car, haha.

jesus the Mach 1's are that much faster? nearly a whole second, although the horsepower rating is the same? v8 ftw.

    100A, so that's a 2.73 gear? Six speed manual?

I have a gps performance timer that I've clocked consistent 13.65 and even one 13.39 on. I'm not sure I trust it, since it's gps driven, but even adding .25 delay for it to start tracking and i'm right there with you. My car is a 2011 101A with manual 6 and 2.73 gear.

All it takes is gears to put them into the very low 13s - there's a youtube video on the front page of someone with 4.10s and an exhaust going 13.1x.

Mach 1s had 3.55 gears from the factory, yes?

    "30mpg" marketing. Duh.

Lots of people see that as a more than acceptable trade-off, and you can option the gears up to a higher ratio.

I am aware, it was more of a rhetorical question.

You aren't taking into account that the new 6 speeds have a much lower first gear that the 2010 and earlier. The 2.73 in a 2011+ equates to a 3.42 in a T45 or T3650, It's in line with a even a 3.73 or 4.10 in a T56, depending on which model you compare to.

If you haven't been in one of these during a good launch, your not giving the 2.73 gear enough credit. The 3.31 would be more like 4.10 gears with a T45 or T3650. Deeper than that on these V6 cars is really going over board. I did think about a 3.55, but I think it would just kill the daily driveability and fuel economy. As drag racing isn't job 1, I'll probably go to the 3.31 gear.

In 5.0 Magazine this month, there is a 6.99 second Cobra running 3.08 gears with 29" tall tires. Yea, it has 2200 hp, but it speaks to the value of the combination and not just the rear axle ratio.

Guys, sorry for not clarifying sooner. The 2012 V6 has 3.31s as its only option. There certainly is a good deal of ET to be found - say, 13.60s in autumn air with, perhaps, LCA and a shifter. The Mach 1 runs 12.60s with one 12.57 in October air and has 4.30s, no other mods (stock cats and mufflers even).

Since I got my license in '69, I am fortunate to have seen a lot. Please recall that a new off-the-truck '69 Boss 429 before traction aids and tinkering (flames not invited, I was around those cars) would only run about the same high 13s/ 14 flat with that first stinker of a hydraulic cam Ford saddled the '69 Boss 429s with. It was a Grabber Blue '70 Boss 429 that was in a NY showroom back then (factory manual choke under the dash and all!) that stayed in my mind all these years and Fords, until I filled the Grabber Blue craving with this neat little sleeper.

As I'm fond of saying, isn't progress neat? A Hurst brushed aluminum T-handle would be nice in 2011, though.

    OLD!

Progress is good, yes. But you just cant match old school muscle in terms of sound, performance and nostalgia.

No. There is no parallel today to the malevolent mechanical sigh of correctly adjusted factory flat tappets. The "sound tube" of the 11-12 GTs strikes me as wEiRD......

    No, 03/04 305hp Mach 1's run identical times as our 11+ 305hp V6's.

Check out these contemporary road tests of the Mach's ...

Those magazine numbers aren't a good comparison to real driver times though. Most people managed low 13's at 105+ with stock Mach1's (manual). Fastest I've seen was 12.8 @ 109 on drag radials only (manual again). Now the automatic Machs lost 600 RPM's up top, where the 4v really benefited over the 2v, and were a little slower as a result. My old 04 GT ran 13.4 @ 103 (full bolt-ons, weight reduction) and I still got walked by a stock Mach1. :(

Yeah, I think it was mototrend that got like 13.8s with a mach 1 and low 14s with 6.0 gtos.
