    Hello all,

I'm just starting this project, and got the 5.0L out. I'm anticipating this project will take quite some time due to my work schedule. Thank goodness for resources, although it appears to limited based off the fact I have yet to seen a swap completed. Any insights and/or recommendations would be highly appreciated!!

I'm going to do some harnes research. However if all else fails, I have the harness from a donor 2011 3.7 to reference, and/or utilize.

Cool idea I guess. It's still going to be 25 years old and underpowered.

What is your motivation behind a 5.0--->3.7 swap? Definitely an...odd choice. Should be interesting.

Purpose of the project: My brother builds turbo kits for V6 Mustangs, and has a 2012 V6 Mustang. He purchased a 2011 V6 Mustang engine and trans with harness and ECU about a year ago, and his been sitting around. I needed a new engine for my fox body, and knew that he was getting good gas mileage in his car. So put two and two together and figured that I can have relatively decent power for a commuter fox body. My 1989 LX probably weighs around 3100-3200 pounds with a cast iron V8. I would assume that the weight with the swap; that being an aluminum V6 engine. In addition, an aftermarket K member and other items I should be able to get the weight down to 3000 pounds or so. So what does that mean? It means that I could have the power of the 2011 3.7 engine/trans setup, and get commuter MPG (I have two sets of gears: 2.73 and 4.30's).

Ah okay, that makes a little more sense. I would definitely shy away from either 2.73's or 4.30's with a turbo though. 3.55's would probably be your best bet.

    Is your brother Andy?

Yes. When he was 18 he got his first new car (1999 V6 Mustang), and I was into first gen Camaros and C3 68-72 Corvettes.

Yeah I was quite shocked!!! When Andy brought it over, I assumed it was going to be a small engine. We did a rough guestimate/measurement and the engine is about 2 inches wider give or take, but the length was shorter.

Should be a great swap and should get better mileage than the 2012 due to the lower weight.

2.73's with the short tires you use on a fox should work pretty well for DD use.

I wanted to buy that motor and tranny off your brother back a few months when he had it advertised for sale.

When is he going to start working on a turbo kit for the 3.7???

This is going to be a great swap.

:SIDE NOTE: There isn't a "STOCK" G.T. 2010 or below in my town, that can touch my V-6 :)

    Thanks!

I believe he already "parked" his 2012 Mustang, and is using it for mocking purposes. I know about a month ago he had a couple of sets of 3.7 header flanges for turbo header purposes.

    Update:
I got an AJE mild steel k-member, arm/coilover setup with motor mounts. In addition, a Maximum Motorsports manual brake conversion kit with pedal (just in case if I need the additional room).

This is the kind of engine swaps i like to see.

Swapping something you cant go buy. Good luck with the project.
