I am getting some confused oppinons about this. I have a 2009 4.0 V6, And I REALLYYY want it to make at least a respectable amount of power for preferably for under 1000 bucks. Thoughts?

We are currently developing a turbo kit for the 4.0 mustangs for around 1500-1600 bucks.

How much extra horsepower would I make? Would I loose any MPG?

I actually got better gas mileage when I went turbo on my Cobra. The turbo acts as a big muffler, it does not use any engine power to make power like superchargers do, so it did give me slightly better gas mileage. As for power goes, it'll give you enough to blow the engine if you really pushed it.

I'm working on putting a GT500 supercharger on mine. I need to finish making my lower intake manifold.

Hate to be "that guy" , but you will end up with a car that makes about as much power as a stock 2009 GT, after spending $1k, even 2-3k. Unless you plan on rebuilding the engine, your not going to be able to run enough boost with a turbo/super charger or enough NOS to make any kind of serious numbers.

$1000 wont get you anywhere. ive got $750 in just my exhaust, and i installed it myself. ive got a couple thou in bolt ons and my car runs pretty good for a 6. x chargers cost around 5-6,000 w/ intercooler. that would get you another 100 hp and it would be respectable. pro chargers make even more from what ive read, not sure what they cost. hp is not cheap.

get a sct tuner/ cai combo kit with a race tune. thats a good start and it will feel a little better

Im just saving all my money to build up a v8 and swap that in, I would have paid less for a motor and trans combo that I want vs a brand new gt

You guys realize that these 4.0s have forged rods and pistons right? They have gone over 400rwhp and over 500ftlbs of torque on stock motor.

it is impressive what these 6`s can do for sure. sounds like you have some good stuff going on. ive got the old jlt. i work with a guy that just got the new gen jlt and the filter looks smaller. is the whole thing downsized a little or still the same? $249 for a nitrous kit? i know one guy that got in the 13`s with just that ( and 4.10`s) with a auto. hey ortiz, what all are you into? sct tuners/ jlts and tunes? maybe list some stuff on your vendor forum.

I always thought the 3.8 was the better motor vs the 4.0 in terms of being able to hold boost. Learn something new everyday.

If the 4.0s have forged pistons why do they tell us not to spray over 75 without worrying about blowing something up?

i think this might answer that question. this was the sensus on another forum about the 4.0.
The rods are definitely forged and have oil squirters. The pistons are hypereutectic, have skirt coatings and are very strong. But like already stated, very brittle so will not take detonation. The crankshaft is modular iron but I have never heard of one failing in the 4.0SOHC at any horsepower. It is a pretty stout looking part.

so i think thats why you want to watch the spray. the 3.8 and the 4.0 are pretty stout V6`s and can be alot of fun :) ive been wanting a power adder for years while my mileage was still lower, but every year something comes up like this year my trans went out. maybe next year when i have 120,000 miles on it

So if I were just to upgrade to forged pistons I could really get some power out of the little 4.0?
