hello, my name is ryan and my wife is heather. we live in the wonderful (hah!) state of kentucky. our only car is her 98 mustang v6. and heres were the fun begins.. we noticed a couple weeks ago some corrosion on the battery terminals. didn't think much of it, other than it needed to be cleaned. she drove for awhile and all day on saturday no problem until she got off work. it wouldn't start, just a bunch of rapid clicking (sounded like a machine gun). a lady she worked with in a beat up old van tried to give her a jump but to no avail. she got a ride to my work and we went back over when i got off. by this time, my sis and her fiance showed up in his mitsu montero (big suv) and tried to jump her.. no biggy, started right up and drove straight home. in the driveway, turned it off and tried to restart, but it was the same quick clicking.. decided to go to bed and worry about it today (sunday). got up and checked the water in the battery, it was low.. so we filled the water and put it on the charger this morning.. by this afternoon, no charge on the battery.. so we figured it had a dead cell in it and i got a new one on my way home from work.. got home, went out and changed the corroded terminals and put in the new battery.. fired it up.. and bam, more clicking.. so we're stumped and hoping like hell its nothing serious.. anybody that could help would be awesome.. thanks all..

    Welcome.

Could be a few things I guess. You could make sure the battery you bought is still ok before doing other troubleshooting by taking it back and getting it tested. I've gone through shorts in mine as well as a bad battery cable. Mine got old and corroded. One end had a fray starting and we didn't think that was enough to do it but it was and when I changed the cable, my problems were gone.

happened to my '95 before, take the cables off the terminals and clean the terminals and cables, put some petroleum jelly (vaseline works wonders for many things  ) on the terminals, then reconnect the cables. this should fix the problem. good luck.

    also, welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site. Did you clean the corrosion off the cables before you put the new battery in?

Your starter is a 'performance' part? I guess or the car wouldn't perform at all. :p

I could see something cool but not a stock replacement that you wish wouldn't have gone out at all. :(

think jricky was saying that new performance parts would be better than a starter

very true, but she would rather receive it as a birthday present than have to shell out $100 for it herself.. otherwise, they weren't gonna get her nothing..
