Since this seemed to spark a lot of opinions from people, why not make a thread about it?

Here's my opinion on alcohol. A person should be allowed to drink, almost anytime, and anywhere. I don't believe in preemptive measures so people won't get hurt, or killed. I believe that people need to be responsible for their actions, but should not be punished if they don't hurt/kill themselves or anyone else.

For example, Drinking and driving. Most my friends have DUI's, some with 2 or 3 :p I don't have a single one. But I have seen what the punishment is for simply having a beer and driving, and it is unjust. The reason being is that I have driven more times then I can count plastered and always made it home with no damages, and not hurting a single soul. Why do I need to be punished if I have not hurt or killed anyone? I believe in the **** happens logic, on this subject. I also believe in eye for an eye. If I kill someone while driving plastered, then execute me, get it?

How many people do you think speed off when a cop flashes his lights behind them, when they are driving drunk?? Alot of people know that they are 1. going to jail, 2. paying $5000 out of pocket, 3. 1 year min. no license, or restricted license, 4. taking drivers ed all over again. At least in VA that is. So what is it? Pull over and take all that? Or take a chance and try to get away, well when someone is intoxicated I'm pretty sure they think they can get away and end up causing alot more harm because they are scared. Now if the law was simply to escort the person home instead of branding them with a permanent record, charging them insane fees, and sending them to jail. I'm sure people would not be so scared to pull over, dont ya think?

Same goes for almost anything else. Especially work. My old boss came into work plastered(when I was in retail), and I simply laughed. He even offered me 2 corona lights(yuck!). No harm came of it, he still has his job, so where's the harm in it I ask?

Also what beverage do you think the founding fathers had while writing the constitution? A glass of water? LOL! Nope, beer, and wine!

Point is, laws are far too strict, having a beer doesn't hurt anyone, and if it did then punish the person that abused it, not everyone else. Same goes for all drugs.

The roads are a shared resource. We have a right as citizens to have them be as reasonably safe as possible. Driving impaired is not safe, whether it actually results in an accident or not. Case closed.
There is simply no fact here to argue, just uneducated speculation.
Working in retail while drunk is highly unlikely to result in death or catastrophic accident to others. :tard:

    Until it does.

There is a time and place for everything. Employers have every right to prohibit their employees from coming to work impaired, as it's THEIR ASS on the line if that employee ****s up.

There's no federal law prohibiting employees from working drunk. It's company policy that dictates it. Don't like it? Work somewhere else. Simple.

That's why most states have the .08 BAC rule  A beer is only .02, so you wont get punished for a beer. :josh7owens:

You may believe that alcohol should be allowed anywhere because its always the individual's fault.

I've got a question for you:

Do you believe alcohol destabilises the molecular configuration of the walls of neurons?

Holy ****, what is wrong with you??? Thinking its funny most of your friends have DUIs.

Every had a friend killed because of some drunken shithead behind the wheel? I have. They thought they were safe, drunk hit them...drunk lives they die. Laws are too strict my ass.

You and your Darwin ****...how 'bout cause and effect **** too.

Your thinking (or whatever your blathering is called) is beyond both reason and comprehension.

Before you call me a tea totler, I drink on the weekend. I do NOT drive, I do NOT do **** to annoy anyone.

    How old are you, btw?

I would glady take a $1-3k fine and getting escorted home than all of the nonsense that has come with my dui. Pretty much if you get a DUI you are ****ed. Mine will end up costing me around $1600, plus the $1500 retainer, the $600.00 DUI course I will have to take, and the $60/month I will have to pay my probation officer for a year... and whatever 60 hours of my time is worth, and the $800 to get myself out of jail... all of this because I drank 2 beers. I blew a .031, legal limit for me is .02.

Edit: I know I'm a dumbass for leaving at all, but **** happens... I think that the fines/punishment should be made by the amount the person has had to drink.

I just realized we have two new smiley faces so I'll use them here because they seem appropriate, even though I have no idea where he's from.

Don't know what a tea totler is. Well, thats too bad for your friend, but as I said "**** happens" and your need to punish everyone for one persons screw up is unjust.

Was you friend in a car, or on foot?

I would care if someone killed a friend of mine while they were driving, but I would only blame that one person, not anyone else, I'm not that selfish and childish. If my friend was doing something like walking in the street, or crossing without looking and the other person happened to be drunk, then I would blame my friend as they should have been aware of their surroundings.

Also ive never understood the need to drink and drive. If you know your going to be drinking make arragements. If its spur of the moment make arragements back home. Its not that ****ing hard to not drink and drive. Infact if its a problem for you STOP drinking COMPLETELY.
