i've got a standard fender tele. quality isn't the best, but i haven't had any problems with it, and its a pretty nice guitar for the most part. i really like it. epiphones are pretty good, they basically have the same electronics as gibsons, if you get the right ones.

Go to a music store and ask them. Then try out a few.

Get a guitar that you can hold comfortably and wont kill your hand because of an incorrect sized neck/fretboard.

I was looking for 2 months before I bought my accoustic. Tried at least 200 different guitars both electric accoustic and traditional.

I guess it depends on the model, but I would say no. My friend's first guitar was that and he ended up getting an Epiphone Dot with some Seymour Duncan pickups and using the Yamaha as a project guitar (painted it mystichrome, got a brushed aluminum pickguard, and a nice set of EMG pickups). My first guitar was an ESP M-10 (comes in their starter pack). I really like the guitar...it's great looking and plays real nice with a cheap set of upgraded pickups. Definitely a beginner guitar, but the whole pack with amp and all is pretty damn cheap (the amp is a worthless piece of ****, I ended up getting a new one pretty quick).

man my first guitar was a $70 kramer from www.musicyo.com and it was perfect for learning on. felt like a strat just wasnt that great but it let you explore and see if you really wanted to learn before you shell out a few hundred on a guitar. IMO the strat copies like squier and such are worse than my 70$ kramer focus
cant find a better deal for 70 bux :)

get a mexi stratocaster, they are good quality. Dont settle for a squire or other piece of ****. I remember when I had my squire, it was like 250, for the guitar and amp; had I saved a little more I could have bought a mexi stratocaster, and have saved more time to get my american.
