Could you take the H pipe right off of a GT (as shown in this diagram) and use that in place of the Y pipe instead of having a shop weld one...? I haven't read it anywhere in the FAQ or info saying that it wouldn't work.

I'm buying the exhaust from a GT and he said he still has to cut it off the car, I'm wondering if I can get the H pipe from him as well if it will work.

Yes and no. It won't bolt directly up, but with some modification, you can make it work.

However... since that statement applies to almost anything (to obvious varying degrees), you might want to just find something designed for your stang, or have a shop fab something up for you.

I got my dual exhaust from a '99 GT and I bought the adapter kit for the V6 from Pacesetter Exhaust. It was about $90 and had everything that was needed; the muffler guy I used went from being hesitant about wanting to get into it (since I really didn't know enough to tell him exactly what I was doing) to saying, "Oh, you've got all that? Ok, no prob," and the whole job cost $100. The kit includes an H-pipe, and I don't know how much trouble it would be to make the H off the GT work, so the extra bucks spent may save you some hassle and time.

still true duals. true duals just means that you dont have a ypipe seperating the pipes from one into 2 sperate tails.

some people call the pipes when you dont have any xover divorced pipes.

You are trying to differentiate between a dual exhaust system and a dual exhaust system. Stock GT duals are not catbacks.
