I'm absolutely loving the Arlo camera system I got. It's so nice knowing exactly when you get a package and being able to watch videos of them dropping stuff off. We've had a lot of thefts of packages around town so knowing when we get things is nice so I can go put them in the house.

Yep. As cheap as cameras are now, it’s worth having. I’ve had the Blink cameras (front and back doors) for 6 months and love them.

I just put up my Ring floodlight this past weekend. It’s on my detached garage so it looks up the driveway and also shows the gate to the pool area. Other than having to pay for video storage, love it so far.

had no idea standard deduction pretty much doubled this year? i'm sure @Zuplar keeps up with that stuff. pretty huge.

edit: nvm. i knew the dependent stuff changed, but they got rid of that completely. so teh X multiplied by yourself/spouse/kids is gone.

boned for kids. boned more per kid you have.

Yeah I'm definitely going to get more money back this year. I got zero for my kid due to income phase out, but since that has been raised as well, I will get that $2k this year.

had a big old thing typed out doing my best impression of a cpa, but i'll spare everyone

it really looks like dinks (dual income no kids) are going to clean house whereas the married with kids gets worse the more you have. im going to put our numbers from last year into what looks to be this years form. i think we're going to owe more, but might end up owing 1k less. we have two kids, but last year didn't get to claim my boy b/c years alternate. this year only one b/c my step son turned 18 so no credit i believe.

I would think most people would end up paying less, especially if you only took the standard deduction. I itemize, so won't see much difference in that department, as a matter of fact I'll just barely have enough to itemize now that the standard deduction has doubled. Last year was the first year I had a kid, and I didn't get any tax benefit other than $300 for daycare. This year I'll get the child tax credit thanks to Trump's tax law.

you mean increased credit? the credit has been there for as long as i can remember.

i actually scored big time when my boy was born b/c he was born with two days left in december. it wasn't a requirement that they depend on you for half the year. we got the credit and exemption. that will back fire the year he turns 18 though b/c we won't get the tax credit. if same laws are around, but pretty sure it has always been a rule they have to 18 at years end.

on taxes..........we always itemized, but not up to 24k. if you itemized over that, then last year you could have added 8k for you and your wife........12k this year? we used to reduce our taxable by over 30k with dependent exemptions, but can't do that anymore so taking teh 24k :-(

edit: you may want to review your tax return from 2017. i have a coworker with a baby born in october 2016. that year he got the exemption and the credit.....like i did back in 2005 with just days left in teh year. on newborn it doesn't matter when they were born during the year.... "For tax years prior to 2018 claiming your son or daughter as a dependent will shelter $4,050 (for 2017) of your income from tax, saving you a quick $1,012.50 if you're in the 25 percent bracket. You get the full-year's exemption no matter when during the year the child was born or adopted."

The problem is I made too much money. Those credits phased out over $110k, that got bumped to $400k. It has zero to do with when my kid was born, she was 7 months old when I filed my taxes.

another edit: nope we got zero. freakin sweet. Trumps the man.
