called napa today (we know the guy that runs it) and there is a 55 dollar core charge per caliper. he doesnt think my calipers will work for it since mine are v6 calipers. out of curiousity, what years/models had the big brakes? i know 01 bullitt, 03/04 mach 1, 99/01 cobra (assuming 99 did too), 03/04 cobra. anymore? i might order from something besides a cobra, i dont want it to say that on the caliper.

also, diller, what rotors did you buy?

All bullitts, Mach 1s, and 99+ cobras have the calipers you want. I would stay away from the pre-99 calipers as they are a little more prone to caliper flex and have smaller piston diameters.

For street use just use the store brand rotors. For race use, spend the cash on some OEM brembo rotors or go with some Powerslot. If you really want to get spendy you could get some trick 2 piece rotors from Full Tilt Boogie Racing.

do the 99/01 cobra calipers say cobra on them? or do you know... i was curious about the ones you posted earlier, they have less surface area than the ones stalker posted. might help a little on weight.

I think all of the cobra calipers say "Cobra" on them. You need the Mach 1 for the plane jane gray color or Bullitt for the red with white pony on them.

The Brembo rotors will have a smaller friction surface than the ones posted earlier. Here is a shot for reference:

Away from V6's for now........
The calipers I got I spec'd for an 01 Cobra. One caliper was plain, the other had a PBR logo, it really depends on the brand or how they received the core.

If it was me, and I was buddy buddy with the Napa store, then it might be harder to do the V6/GT to Cobra exchange.

I didn't tell the Napa store what I was doing, I just brought them my V6 calipers and off I went.

yeah, i may do that with another napa store in another town lol. bad thing is, i can get them cheaper at the store i know the guy. thus why i was asking about advance calipers, they are in town and actually cheaper.

Did notes big different with cobra calipers??
Yes your gonna see a more stopping power. I'm running upgraded Baer brakes and LOVE them. Feels much safer.

and is the front all you need to do? how about the back?
IMO depends on your plans. If your gonna Auto-X the car I'd do all 4 corners. Normal street driving and trips to the drag strip I'd say front should be good. I only upgraded the front. Will probably upgrade the rears at a later time looks kinda goofy with the 18" on it.

There is more stopping power like said above. I agree also, if you track the car, do all four and invest in better pads/rotors.

I did mine more for looks. Didn't like seeing those tiny brakes inside my 18 in. Saleens.

There is a small difference between the pre 99 and 99+ Cobra calipers. The pistons are slightly smaller on the pre99 calipers. That means it will require a bit more brake pressure for the same caliper clamping force. It really isn't that big of a deal so I wouldn't put too much though in it.

Just a thought I had. I am going to do these Cobra calipers on my 99' GT, and the Napa store that I did this trick with can't locate a set of calipers at the moment.

Diller, are they any other differences than piston size with the pre 99' Cobra calipers? Mounting issues specifically? If I can't locate 99+ ones, I have seen some 94-98's around that I may pick up instead.

No, the piston size is the only difference. They use the same mounting brackets, hardware, and pads. If these are going on a 99+ car, you want the 99+ calipers. That is because they changed the rear piston size as well in 99. If you go to the older calipers you will have more rear brake bias. May not be that bad if you aren't threshold braking all the time but I would try to hold out for the right ones.

what happened to the calipers on your 01? did they get ruined?

I sold my wrecked 01' minus the V6 parts, but the guy wanted all the brakes/suspension stuff on it.
