I am wanting to upgrade my headunit to a flush mount Pioneer Navigation unit, but in my current center consol there is not room for it because I have a 98 Cobra with the double din. Has anyone ever replaced thier double din center consol with a single din consol from a newer mustang? Here are some pics to explain...

Here is what I have now...

Here is what I want to replace it with... Can it be done?

What, just replace the center piece, not the whole dash?

you're gonna need to replace more than the bezel since it's also how things are mounted behind there. i'm not sure if it's screw in/screw out DIN mounts but i've heard this isn't as easy as it looks from some of our radio gurus

theres no screws involved, the piece just snaps in, the roush kits for the center piece are 94-99, and 01-04 difference being single or double din, so it should be a direct replacement. if i remember right, mine snaps in across from the hvac , and real close to the bottom of the piece. take a pic with your piece off and ill tell you if the same, im going to bet its identicle, but i think (i maybe wrong) you might have to purchase the lower shifter part as well

you've got the names backwards and it's confusing me lol

single DIN is the 94-98? style

double DIN is the newer one

I did it, but I replaced my whole interior. With a little modification ( you won't be able to return it to stock easily) you could easily just switch the bezels

the dash itself is different and the dash frame is also different I'll load up a pic of my 01 dash for you with the bezel off

DIN is a size, your standard in dash radio like your car has and mine had double DIN refers to a radio double the size of the standard

I see what you're getting at though, if my 95 dash wern't buried I'd post a pic of it to show the difference. It'll involve some cutting to get the newer bezel into the older dash..

i was under the impression that the dash it-self is unchanged from 94, and the difference being the interior trim pieces were just changed slightly:confused: its strikes me odd that the part numbers are the same from 94-99 and 00-04 which the only chane to my knowledge was the double din?

there are a couple molding differences in the dash that can be trimmed, but the frame underneath the dash is consideribly different and quite a bitch to change if you're daily driving your car.

the newer dash will work with the single din system (old style), but the older dash needs some trimming to fit the double din style

to support the radio properly you will always need the corresponging dash frame

i see, so your saying there is just some minor structural things to support the radio it-self? could'nt he just make his own radio mount, and not use the older radio mounts?

i had the monitor mounted in the space where the radio was , it flush mounts in there pretty nice, and moved the head unit to the center vent location(and no it doesnt effect the ac or heat ,the other vents are just blowing more,so the difference is minimal)
