With the new v6 Mustangs arriving now (05). How fast are they compared to the 99+? Especially a modded 99+. If I have duals, and CAI can I keep up with the new stangs (stock)? How about adding a pulley and spacer?

By the way, the new stangs look awsome!

They are rated at 210 horsepower, but are about 200 pounds heavier than the 99-04. If they are faster, its not by much at all.

    05 > all but 03/04 cobra STOCK

The new stangs may be heavier but their suspension and platform are new and MUCH better. There is a kid here whose dad has an 05 AUTO and ran a 15.2 STOCK....there arent people that could run that with a 5speed 99-04 not to mention the 99+ autos run what? low 16's?

There is also a guy on another board that ran a low 13 with a 5speed gt STOCK right down to the tires. Granted thats on example from each car, but the best iv seen STOCK on the 99-04 v6 was a mid 15

The 4.0 has a much flatter torqe curve as well.
HP #'s arent everything when it comes to racing.

the 3.8 has a bigger aftermarket, and is a better overal performer, yes.. but an emissions motor...not quite.

it's a more efficient motor than the 3.8, but it's more difficult to modify because there's pretty much only 1 company out there making parts for them.

the 4.0s DO however respond MUCH better to boost and nitrous than 3.8s do. by quite a bit.

the new 05s are faster, and make more power... there's no astrovan that's going to beat one haha...i think you just got 'lucky.'

    1. Mach 1 is still faster given equal drivers

    2. The 05 AUTO of which you speak pulled a 2.1 60ft. That's what gave him a better ET than my car which trapped 90, just like his. If I could pull a 60ft like that, I'd have just as low of an ET if not lower. He outdrove me, but the cars are equally fast. A manual will be slightly faster than the AUTO, but not by much because the new auto is a 5-speed as well. It won't be surprising to hear of 5-speed 99+ cars beating '05's because they are only marginally faster.

WTF are you basing this on???? There is no comparison. The 3.8 cylinder head is prob the best 2V head ever made by Ford. The 4.0L has a long way to go to even make 400rwhp.

    Lets cut the speculation...

The 05 V6 cars are about .5 second faster in the 1/4 than the 99-04 cars. Thats fact.

    The 05 V6 auto run a low 7 0-60 which is the same as a 99-04 5spd. Thats fact.

Thats all based on real Ford numbers.

i agree , and like i said in an old post theese engines will lack torque due to there being ohc , the car will produce more hp than torque when moded, not like the 3.8 wich the torque always be on top than hp. this is due to power bands etc..

What is the max the bottom end can handle on the 05's? Was all that talk about it being max out or close to it, false? With both engines (3.8 ohv and 4.0 ohc) bottom ends stock, which one can take the most boost and make the most hp/tq safely? BTW I like the look of the new stangs.

The 99-up 3.8 and 4.2 hands down will take more. A beefier block, factory girdle and decent rods are stronger than the 4.0L crank and rods. The 4.0L will make decent power but will have serious issues with the crank at high rpm/high boost.
