I am very impressed with what Ford did to both the new V6 and GT. More power, better gas millage and improved handling.

I don't understand why people wouldn't pay the extra 5 grand for a GT... Whipple developed a new supercharger that's supposed to make 600 horse on that 5.0 with only 7 pounds... Not saying the V6 isn't impressive, it's more of a "get a good deal on a used one" car IMO.

    v6 mustang 2011 msrp $22,145
    v8 2011 msrp $29,645

    Thats a $7500 difference

Add the extra tax for the gt ($600), extra cost in gas millage, higher insurance, extra curb weight. All these little things add up and you can easily go overbudget.

If your true goal is a 400 hp mustang then sure get the v8 like mostly everybody else .

If your budget minded get the v6

If your a true mustang enthusaist and want to save money. Love being the slight underdog, love modding, love the v6 scene and want to humulate v8 owners then here's your chance to get a great platform comming from ford. For once ford came out with a v6 with real potential.

A guy on a local message board is going to sell his '10 GT and buy an '11 V6. He's probably going to make a profit or at least break even in the end and still have an all-around performance car that gets 30+mpg.
Please tell me what is not to like about that.

The new 6 is an amzing engine, but so is the new 8. Make me kind of sand to think with all the work i have done to my car a stock GT may take me at the track.
BTW. It would appear from the dyno number that the GT is under rated.

With the right person tuning the ti-vct, I look for the 11 v6 to put down 300rwhp n/a. Now imagine that tuning with simple bolt on power and better gearing...May be a 12sec v6 n/a. Imagine that power with a turbo:eek:.

It's going to be a great platform.

I guess I'm going to build a motor and shoot for 450...I dont want the new kids on the block making my car look bad:lol:

    Thats really pushin it.

Its hard to make a 3400 pound car run 12's all engine espcially on a v6 engine. The 2011 v8 engine barely cracks 12's and thats running an underrated 412 hp. To expect the v6 3.7 dohc to make 400 crank hp doesn't seem like a feasible goal.

I doubt that bolt ons will have much effect on power production. The v6 engine is very efficient already, has high compression, decent manifolds, etc. Not to much room for improvents.

A lot of cobra owners don't even upgrade there cams b/c its 2 costly to only gain 5 to 10 hp tops. Stock cams work great.

Im not saying this can't be done but I figure most people that will do naturally aspirated mods will most likely see mid to low 13's at best unless they do heavy weight reduction mods.

Im curious to see what the guys at supersix can do with porting the heads, and polishing. Im very curious on the gains as this is all unknown territory

Considering it has been dyno'd already at 265 to the wheels on the stock ford tune and 87oct, I dont see why 93oct couldnt bump it another 35rwhp.

Tuning the ti-vct is going to be the thing to watch for. From what I've read about it, is that it carrys a lot of potential.

With the right mods 300rwhp should be able to carry a 3400 pound car into the high 12's. we'll just have to see what type of short times this v6 motor is capable of and if it has enough umph out the hole to cut decent 60's.

I dont think there would be any reason to even touch the cams. Maybe some deburring of the heads and removing the factory imperfections.

You might be right though as for the average to be low to mid 13's...A 13.7 in my book is right on the verge of being a mid 13 sec car.
