Nice. Not even a big deal though because college will be free when he gets old enough to attend anyway.

California’s “Fair Pay to Play Act” is going to be interesting to watch.

I think the NCAA said that those players wouldn’t be eligible to play NCAA events.

We will see if Cali calls the NCAA’s bluff.

We all know it's not free free, Gif...

The NCAA is a cartel so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't let them play

Slippery slope but yes, there should be some way for them to make some compensation. Signing autographs, video game kickbacks, etc. Whether or not there should be limits or some sort of structure, maybe. Not that it doesn’t go on now but it would be the wild wild west. T Boone Pickens (RIP) would have been giving a Trevor Lawrence $5M for some autographs.

there would def have to be limits. i'd be on board for a flat rate for all, but that won't be good enough for top tier athletes. honestly, the best thing would be for all the top tier programs to tell the ncaa to go to hell. start their own league and just buy all the kids with salary + endorsements. then the other 120 schools can go back to recruiting and then pay every player 30k/year. i can't think of any way for kids to get paid via endorsements, autographs, etc without making the recruiting even more lopsided. if they got all that, we would only see the same 4 teams compete for the title every year. take texas for example..........tech and tamu both have top 50 classes for 2020. that would never happen if Texas was allowed to offer compensation.

Ummm, we have the same teams every year now. I’m not sure that would change much. Memphis, UCF and Boise State would still never have a chance at the playoff.

Might change basketball a little. Different dynamic there.

Ummm, no. Been 5 playoffs and 6 teams have 1 appearance. OSU 2, and OU 3. then you got bama and clemson. Thats ten teams over the first 5 years.

If kids got paid to play then you would def only see those last 4 every year. Also, with cash on the line maybe USC could bump on. It becomes alot less about being an established program and all about which team can play the top guys the most.

If OU could pay players the booster money would be flowing in like it does in a mega-church on Sunday.

Yup. I even think clemson could lose out in the long run. Would be OU, Texas, Bama, and then USC I think would be last. Basically the two big ass states vs crazy football people that have no other decent sports besides elite ncaaf programs

    We have the Thunder....so

And there would be numerous other schools paying bank to players. Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, TAMU....the list could go on for several others I feel like.

I think you'd see a further division of FBS into those top 20 or so programs almost being completely on their own or should be on their own at that point.

Imo if universities are gonna straight up pay players then there should be some sort of restriction or guidelines.

I always thought this debate was about letting players use their name and image to make themselves money. In that case let them make all the money the market allows.

That's basically what i said, but not 20. Mentioned top teams breaking away from conferences, and the ncaa, to make their own league. I don't think it could be up to 20 though as a league. More like 10 schools could afford to break away and start a new conference. If that happens, i think it would be competitive but still dominated by a couple schools. If we're talking salary caps, wage caps, etc then nope but no one really has any idea how to regulate it.
