Raymond's Car Detailing thread....

Did the interior again, washed and dried, and did the 4step process on the roof, pillars, and rear bumper. Ran out of time because it got too dark to see, even with my house's floodlights and a standalone spotlight I have, so I just quit.

The roof came out amazing, no pics yet. I'll get some tommorow before it gets dirty.

I hate having a busy life.

It's a protectant, so as long as you don't abuse your seats you should be able to keep them looking new using the stuff for a while. I mean, there's nothing you can do about the normal minor stretching and stuff that happens as you spend more time in the seat. But yeah, this will help out I'd think.

I prefer microfiber towels over the absorber any day. :)

I don't, the absorber is way easier to use for me, and seems to pick up water better when used properly.

Thanks. The "Deep Crystal" stuff is awesome.

gudday.
While we're on the subject of showing our detailing collections.

:)
I don't know if I've ever posted here, just lurk mostly, but good write up for the most part Raymond.

The only thing I would recommend re-thinking is The Absorber, it along with other squeegee-type drying tools (ie California Wiper Blade) actually create swirl scratches on your clearcoat, stick to MF drying tools..a good budget one is the 9 sq. ft Waffle-Weave towel that sells for 10$ at Autozone, it leaves some lint on the paint but it's easy to wipe off, and does a great job at drying your car quickly.

Damn Kevin just showed me up big time, nice arsenal you got there dude. I've never had any problems with the Absorber and since the paint is already swirled from the previous owner I doubt I would notice the minor amount of swirls the absorber may or may not leave. I really need to invest in a PC soon though. :(

Thanks :)

PC is a great investment man, I could have wheels right now but I decided to get the PC and other stuff instead, and glad I did..already profited 400$ from it..

I have a little detailing business as a little money maker on the side, so I've been trying out a lot of different products. Meguiars is probably my favorite over-the-counter brand for budget stuff, I'm recently been ordering Pinnacle/XMT products from autogeek, and anxious to try their Souveran wax on a black car.

I haven't done any engine details yet but plan to give that a whirl, probably going to get some Amazing Roll Off and other stuff from AG next time I make a resupply order. XMT 360 and 180 are also on the list, as well as Natty's Blue paste wax, and a foam gun with DP soap.

It's an addiction.

Yeah you're telling me. If it weren't for the fact that the mod bug hits me harder than the cleaning bug (which is a pretty huge ****ing bug in itself :uhh: ) I'd have a porter cable and some menzerna/poorboys products myself. :p

Haha yea...I had a bunch of plans for my 6 when I got it but then reality that it was just a V6 hit me hard so I just treated it like any other car, then I saw mysteed's M112 kit plan so I'm probably going to get back into the game.

When you get the PC and some polish you will love the way your black paint turns out, you won't even want to drive it, just stare at it all day long..haha.

Kinda wish I had black or DSG :(

Raymond and/or Kevin....

I dont wanna highjack this thread so PM me the info if you can.

I'm goin up to the country club i work at tomorrow to get my holiday bonus. I heard its 50 bucks, so i planned on spending it all on deatailing stuff. I dont really have anything at this point, just some car wash and the basic essentials. I really wanna start all over with everything new, and see if it makes a big difference.

I'll have 50 bucks to spend, i have a white car, and the paint is already swirled from the previous owner if that matters:thumbdown:

I'll def be picking up some type of claybar btw, i havent done it since i got my car 2 years ago:eek:

$50... buy the box in the middle of this picture:

I think it's like $30, I got it for Christmas (along with the other stuff lol). It comes with car wash, tire shine, interior detail spray, gold class wax, and an applicator for the wax. Buy that box if you can find it, a nice mitt or two, and some microfibers... that should add up to right around $50 and you'll have some nice supplies that work well and should last you a little while.

I like the absorber, it's my preferred method of drying... along with a leaf blower when I'm trying to get rid of ALL the water lol. I'd pick one up, I've never had any problems with them... they're like $8. A Meguiars Smooth Surface claybar kit is $20 at most autoparts stores and comes with everything you need to do it.

gudday.
You can go to your local autozone and get these things for about 50$: (these ar e the prices at my autozone)
- 64oz Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo - $6.99
- Clay-Magic Claybar kit - $9.99
- 16oz Meguiar's Gold Class Carnaubu Wax - $9.99
- 12 pack of 80/20 Microfiber towels - $9.99
- Stoner's Invisible Glass Spray (tint-safe) - $4.99
- Autozone Microfiber Chenille wash-mitt - $5.99 (IIRC..)
- Autozone 9sqft Waffle-Weave Microfiber Drying towel - $9.99
That should start you off, also look into:
- Mother's Back to Black trim cleaner&restorer
- Tire shine (The new Meguiar's Hot shine Gel is what I'm currently using, but Armorall's tire shine gel was good too, plus it came with an applicator and is probably cheaper than the Megs)
- Meguiar's Scratch-X

Those things should start you off nicely for maintaining your stang, don't worry much about the swirls as they aren't as visible on our white paint as much as they are on darker ones, plus the Carnauba wax will help disguise them to a degree. The Clay-Magic clay kit comes with more clay then the Mother's or Meg's kit plus comes with some lube, and it's half the price as the other brands. I haven't used it personally but I'll probably switch to it and give it a try, right now I use Mother's and Pinnacle Ultra-Poly clay.

Make sure you get those microfiber towels, there's 3 different colors in the pack if I recall and designate them for specific things, don't mix your towel for wax-buffing with the one for window cleaning, etc etc.

Ask if you have any questions about how to use the stuff.

edit: The Meguiar's pack Raymond mentioned is a good deal, but I'm not sure how easy they will be to find now that the holidays are over, if you do find one, jump on it.
