I just picked up a new phone, t-mobile mytouch3G Fender (basically mytouch 1.2). It's running Android 1.6. So far, I love it. I'm new to the whole google/android scene though. I could use some advice on what apps/ROM's you guys are using, and what you would recommend to a novice like me.

So far, I've downloaded taskiller, and astro. List up your apps/ROM's/modifications and how you like them.

My hero seems a lil slow and laggy sometimes.. Did they ever come out with the 2.1 update for the hero yet?

Pandora on android is awesome. I listen to it all day at work.
The only good game I've gotten so far is Robo Defense.

Sweet!
Google Maps is a cool program.

If you know someone else who is using Google maps you can locate each other via GPS and even get directions to your friends. Believe this works with any smartphone that has it running!

I am not sure if this is Nexus One exclusive but Google can allow you do full out GPS like a normal gps system with full turn by turn directions.

Yeah the mytouch does have wifi. What's the purpose of wifi buddy? I can connect to my wifi easy with the built in manager, but does it offer any speed benefits or anything?

I just downloaded it because with the built in manager on my droid would have issues when it shut off 3g to go to wifi then back to 3g the 3g wouldn't start working again until I rebooted it. With the wifi buddy app it works a lot better and picked up a few access points at work that the built in wifi didn't pick up. I don't think it makes anything faster. Just more user friendly I suppose. If yours works fine as is then I wouldn't bother.

As far as games goes I have action potato (sounds dumb, but is fun for as simple as it is), abduction, homerun derby, armored strike lite, bubble burst lite, slimeball lite, and poke a mole

I have uninstalled a ton of crap, but those are the ones I have kept.

2.1 apps are alot of fun. I have my Moto Droid Overclocked to 800mhz and it ****ing flies.

yes, do tell...I go to the droid forums every once in a while, but I have no clue what the benefits are to the 2.1 upgrade besides living wallpapers that will get old after 10 minutes.

The new stock apps are really clean. Especially the picture gallery, the Music player, and multitouch browser. The biggest benefit to obtaining root is the overclock by far. Its like a whole different phone.

I got the samsung moment a couple weeks ago, i love it. I had the iphone 3g for about 2 years. I was going to get the hero, but after playing with it. It just felt alot slower, plus i like the slide out keyboard on the moment.
