THE OFFICIAL Poker / Online Poker Thread..

Didn't want to mess up the rest of the thanksgiving thread, and figured maybe we needed one of these.

I just recently started playing.. been reading Mike Caro's book and doing a lot of research / studying. Played at a 30 person tournament and took down 4th back a few weeks ago. Felt like I knew what I was doing so I went and played in the 100 person $45 buy in at another casino and placed 20th..

Went back through it and realized how many mistakes I made. Then tonight I went back and played it with my dad and brother in law.. $45 buy in, 100 people (sold out) and placed 9th. Highlight was probably flopping trip queens, checking, calling the bet on the turn, and then re-raising on the river when I felt I had it won. Guy ended up folding.

I feel like I still didn't take advantage of being in position, raising when I felt I could have taken down the blinds, etc etc.

Obviously I'm still new to the game, but I feel like I'm learning at a pretty quick rate.

I play on Full Tilt usually daily.

i'll probably just delay them. all we are doing is getting hammered a few houses down from me.

since i won my entry, i'm gonna hit it pretty hard. hopefully after 60 minutes, i'll either be out, or i'll be up big.

I'm out. God damn it.

Note to self. Don't be impatient.. idiot.

patience kills me as well.

im actually getting bored of this tourney. its break time and there are 3500 left. thats not too bad considering there 5000 60 mins ago.

edit:****. just lost half my stack. flopped top two pair A K, but someone else flopped a straight.

Take Warning
I play on Full Tilt as well. Limit hold em is my game.

I don't mind grinding out limit games, but online I just stick to no-limit. And I think I have only played pot-limit a couple times.

I mentioned it before, but I really like HORSE too. It's always nice to have a good understanding of all the games in my opinion.

Wish my local casino offered more games :( I would like to play Razz or Stud in a live setting.

I know 2k1stang and Bonzo are way beyond my skill level.. any tips for a newer guy trying to learn some basic / more advanced strategies?

I play on Full Tilt as well. Same name as here. Are you guys doing cash games/tournaments? I still have some money in there but I'm pretty sure I can't get it out.

I do both. Currently trying my luck in a $0.10 / $0.25 cash game.

I like playing mixed games as well. I was playing the 7-game on FTP for a while. The stud games were killing me, which is funny because I used to be a pretty strong stud player. You can make a lot of money in low stakes limit games (in terms of bets won per hour). I'm just going to stick with LHE for a while.

Go visit twoplustwo.com and just read. Also, pick up some books. If there's a particular game you're interested in, post it and I could probably give you a recommendation on a good book.

I"ve always heard 2+2 is full of rumors and BS. Truthfully, I have no idea.. I just browse pokerroad.com every once and a while and that seems to be the general idea.

As every other newb, NLHE is my game.. I would love to learn others. I'm afraid of omaha, lol. I play with play money, but with nothing more.

I read most of Caro's book which, in my opinion, gave me a much better sense of how to play.
