Tires

On 17in rims, people normally have 245/45/17, correct?

Do people also stagger them?

Would I be ok going with something like 275 in the rear, with Eibach ProKit drop?

Or should I do 255 all the way around?

Opinions/what you have......please.

depends on the width. 17x8? 17x9?

9" = 275/40R17 is a good size. Don't do less than 255.
8" = 245/45R17

im gonna pay for my tires today.

245/45/17 and 275/40/17 are the recommended tire sizes for a 17x9 inch rim if you want to stagger.

staggering ftw.

NO:eek: ...245's too narrow for a 9" wheel...255 iffy...265 maybe but 275 is a perfect fit for a 9" wheel...here we go again

here we go again, ive seen pics 100 times of a 245 on a 9 inch rim. the tire sits flush with the rim.

i'm buying 245's for the front and 275's for the rear.

dude, the dude from discount tire direct told me to get that exact setup lol

Good luck with that...sitting flush is NOT what you want...don't come crying here when you curb up you new wheels...Ford put 245's on 8" wheels and 275"s on a 9" wheels for a reason...who do you think is right..the dude at discount tire or the Ford designers and engineers who I guess have just a bit more knowledge in this kind of stuff...but its your call

275's on the front of my car...perfect fit

295's on a 10" on the rear... again perfect fit

I have 245/40/18's on the front. They DO fit perfectly but there isn't much rim protection. That's OK though just don't hit any curbs

Does anybody want to hear what the technique is to get maximum performance out of any tire size?

never put them on the car? :uhh:

If you had to run a certain size tire, you could maximize its performance by stretching the tire. I don't recommend it for street vehicles but a lot of road racers that are limited by a certain size tire will get larger rims so that they can stretch the tire just to the point where it won't pop the bead off on a corner.

AFTERMARKET WHEELS AND TIRES

Now that I've covered most stock wheel/tire combo's, I'll move on to explain sizing your tires to your aftermarket wheels. Aftermarket wheels generally come in 5 sizes. These sizes are as follows:

17x8"
17x9"
17x10.5"
18x9"
18x10"

The tires you want to fit to each of these sizes are as follows:

17x8" - 245/45-17 or 255/45-17
17x9" - 275/40-17
17x10.5" - 315/30-17
18x9" - 265/40-18 or 275/35-18
18x10" - 295/35-18 or 305/30-18 or 315/30-18

So how wide is too wide?

This is as wide as I would go on each wheel size:

17x8" - 275/40-17
17x9" - 295/40-17
17x10.5 - God, I don't know... 345?
18x9 - 295/35-18
18x10 - 315/30-18
