Vtak?

Well I know that we all have our own feelings on the subject, and most of them are probably offensive to those die hard Honda drivers.

Layz I know I can count on for some good opinions and "facts."

Mine is this really. If your vtak is so awesome that it's not a challenge for you to beat a Mustang, why do you still run 19's at the track?

Sorry if this doesn't really make any sense, I'll revise it later. I'm tired and me an a friend or two were making fun of the local vtak scene.

Post up anything that comes to mind I suppose.

EDIT:

Well I'm sorry I didn't come across to clearly last night I was very tired as I said. I'm not closed minded to the import circle and I've actually seen quite a few that I like. I'm a big fan of the Skyline R34 and R33, but then again just about everyone is.

I like cars in general and some are really nice. I'm starting to rethink this thread and all. I still don't even understand what I was thinking last night when I posted it.

If I remember correctly I was looking for some cheap laughs and instead made myself look like an ass.

Lol. Forgive me guys.

haha, makin a jab at my "facts"? thats fine.

just remember, guys, that there are a few members on the boards that own import cars, and we don't want to offend anyone, so try to be open minded and conservative in what you're saying.

Bloodred, even though what you said was pretty brief, i think i understand what you mean. i'm thinking more along the lines of: what is the motive behind the rivalry of "smaller" imports and the "larger" domestics?

from now on, then, for the sake of what i'm going to say in this thread, i guess you can cross-reference an "import" as any lower end sport compact from japan and a "domestic" as... a typical v8 muscle car? i'm not really including mid-high performance imports in the conversation because they are not a major factor. people hardly pass judgment on g35s, evos, and the like because even we, the mustang owners, can appreciate them and admit that there is a large portion of them that are "better than us".

so, at the surface, it's obvious that the rivalry is there because (1) import owners don't like to be looked down on by domestic owners and (2) domestic owners think that import tuning is vain for the reason that the results are numerically meager. so generally, the domestic driver see's an import and thinks "what is this guy thinking. that is so stupid", meanwhile the import tuner, i would imagine, thinks along the lines of "they think they can compensate for a lack of engineering with more cylinders". for these reasons, i suppose an import tuner's motive is to prove that even without large displacement, he can be competitive, and the domestic tuner would like to prove otherwise.

i would just like to point out that it's in human nature to think of something different as "wrong". so, if a car looks different, sounds different, works different, runs different, and a certain person experiences this second-hand, it's not going to be a surprise that they won't take to it well. (JESUS CHRIST I HEAR A COFFEE CAN MUFFLER OUTSIDE GOING UP AND DOWN THE STREET AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS)

and so, i guess since i can't really think straight anymore due to the disturbance outside, i will hand this general idea over to you guys to see what you all say, and i will juss put my opinion and whatever "facts" (lol) i can recall on top of that.

whatever floats youre boat..

i came from a honda that i dumped alot of money into and it could damn well perform it would easly smoke my v6 stang, and burn on gt's off the line and a few times in the 1/4 due to the stang owner not driving well.. every one is different and has different tast's... in all honesty if some one offered me a very nice 92 integra ls, that has low miles, and a clean title and a 1k bucks for my stang.. it would take me a few days of thinking..

i am self have a love for cars in general, sure i hate riced out cars. but hey if you have 20's and a wide body kit with a gtr wing a civic, but that civic has a built turboed motor and runs 12's more power to you. atlest youre car has the balls to back up its fuglyness. my only real problem with honda's is the lack of torque.. and btw if any one wanted to do a even trade of my stang for a g35 i would do it in a heart beat..

i agree with mizke.. i started out with a sunfire (though not an import, for purpose of argument its close enough).. it was lowered, wheels, cavalier front end, big stereo, and big muffler.. i loved that car.. though it always bugged the hell outta me when ppl labeled them all "imports" because theres a lot of domestic tuners fixing up cavaliers and sunfires and focuses (foci?) and neons and such.. anywho, i think the main draw on the sport compacts is they're smaller and better on gas and weigh alot less.. therefore they don't need as much power to push their 2000 lbs as it does to push our 3000 lbs... i dunno, deep down i guess we're all car guys and we can learn stuff from each other.. thats my view..

i have had myass handed to me before by a cavalier.. ahaha...it was purple to...

but i do miss my teg's mpg it was awsome. just under 300miles per tank, it felt and sounded like a race car. i miss that feeling of driving a race car, but it took alot of time and money to get it there. when as with my stang making 150hp and 215ft lbs at the fly, a simple mod of intake wch is done, exhaust, and a udp's. my stang would be more energetic so to speak..

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone or anything like that.

Layz I wasn't saying anything against your "facts" I was more or less implying that you usually have one of the funnier things to say when it comes to Vtak.

And Mizke, I'm glad you built a great car from that integra, props to you on that one.

You went against the standard here in my area. You actually did engine work and kept it looking good.

well you also have a ls/vtec setup, thats beast by it's self.

what head are you using ?
how reliable is it ?

for a few months i was seriously thinking about going ls vtec, but alot of the people i talked to said it was not to reliable. they also did the conversion them selves, in wich i would have gone to a shop..

First of all, let's get something straight: The only "vtaks" (cars that actually have variable valve timing motors) that are going to be running 19's at the track are going to be beat-down, broken piece of **** hondas that have VTEC geared for gas mileage rather than power. 90% of the "tuner" (read: ricer) hondas out there don't even have VTEC anyway, and if so, then it's a single overhead cam d-series that was meant for nothing more than a grocery getter. (these CAN be pretty quick given a good setup, but out of the box they're nothing special).

The ones that were geared for performance, given a good driver (my GSR, for example, wasn't even offered with an auto trans) will be running mid-low 15's. IMO, that's respectable. I dumped 2k into my mustang to get it out of the 17's and hit a 15.1 with my i/h/e GSR.

I guess I'm weird, but I just don't buy into the import vs domestic war thing; I can respect any car that can get out of it's own way. SVT Focus? I'd drive it. New 6-speed Civic Si? Hell yeah. I'd even sport a turbo Saab if I had to. :D

I'd definitely buy another clean GSR/96-00 Civic SI. 30 mpg beating on it, 5-speed fun-factor, easy motor to work on, reliable, and a Honda holds it's value better than any other car I know. I broke even when I sold my 150k 12 year-old GSR last year.

DAMMIT CASEY STOP MAKING THE SIXES LOOK BAD. D=

you can do better than 17 seconds with 2 grand... sort of. won't really look pretty though...

manual 3.8 split port
gut it down to the bear driver's seat, wheel, and shifter
cut the y pipe off (gonna sound like crap, but it'll run)
700 on 17x10.5 rear wheels wrapped in nitto drags (stock front wheels for LIFE LOL)
600 on 100 shot NX kit
400 on a true trac diff (stock rear end gearing shouldn't hurt too bad on a split port with nitrous...)
150 on UDP&intake
250 on SCT chip

dang, that's 2100 bucks, but you might be able to turn over a really high 13/low 14 with that set up i think, if you're good.

Glad to see someone taking care of an ole' DA teg. :D Most of them I see are rusted out POS's. I'd love to get my hands on a clean 92-93 GSR though, B17 ftw. They're close to impossible to find these days..
this was mine. the guy i sold it to actualy just sold it last week to "upgrade" to a honda fit.

okay, I think I can sum this all up once and for all

tuners...stick to tuners... domestics stick to domestics, we get along

of course there are a few things that dont totally fall into the categories...for example, a neon SRT-4

but really, there are some greatly done up honda's and such and I dont understand what all these B17 motors and all this stuff is..

so, really, what I'm trying to say, is...

TO THE NEXT MUSTANG I SEE WITH COFFEE CAN MUFFLERS..

I WILL HUNT THE OWNER DOWN AND BEAT THE EVERLOVING **** OUT OF YOU WITH THE MUFFLER..

I think you hit that one on the head there JRicky.

And Casey, thanks for a more detailed explanation then I was able to come up with at the point and time I posted this!

I feel better now.
