    Wheel Weight

Stumbled onto a link to this list over at C-C... It is originally from Modular Depot.

The list has not been updated for over a year, also, so I'd like to continue to build where they may have left off.

    So, we need to

    1. Update the list with new wheels and wheel weights as you obtain them...

And I'd also, I'd like to add a little twist by asking people to:

    2. Post pictures of cars (Yours or otherwise) wearing wheels on this list. I will then link them to the pictures of Mustangs with said wheels. This will allow people to look at weight as a first priority, but still allow them to easily evaluate the "looks" as a second priority.

    Tire Weight

Per greensteeda's suggestion... I've added Tire Weight. From a physics standpoint, tires are at least as important as wheels when it comes to the dynamic effect of their weight because they are furthest from the center of rotation.

Clearly, the simplest way to obtain this information is to weigh the tire unmounted. However, weighing it while mounted to a wheel with a known weight should work within reasonable tolerances as well. So, simply weigh the wheel tire combo, and subtract the weight of the wheel. Simple.

So, as you get this information, please post this up as well.

Please include all pertinent info, such as brand, model, and size.

So, everyone, please post up additional info as you find/obtain it, and also provide links to pics of said wheels on Mustangs, and I will choose fitting ones to link to. I would like to link to a few quality pictures of each wheel, possibly of different body styles and colors. For instance, I may link to a Fox, early SN95, and a New Edge with Bullitts, but I'm not going to link a picture of everyone on 3.8 with Bullitts, for obvious reasons.

That being said, post whatever tech/pics you've got.

yeah this really is some good info. I know it would be even harder than getting just the rim weights but I want to know tire weights as well. That would be very interesting.

Excellent idea... I will add that as a section to this thread, in fact, so we can keep all wheel/tire weight info easily accessible. Also, now that I think about it, it shouldn't be THAT hard to obtain the tire info.

Given that we have weights for a lot of Mustang wheels, all it would take is weighing the wheel/tire combo and subtracting out the known wheel weight. Of course, this doesn't account for worn tires and scale inaccuracies, but I'm happy with tolerances in ounces, at this point.

So... update to the first post, soon.

    Again, good idea, greensteeda.

Dang... no weight for painted Saleens, so no way to know tire weight.

BTW, I'll be posting some tire weights tonight. I've got a 285 Nitto on a 10th Anniversary Cobra 17x9, and a couple different tires on some base 99-04 GT wheels.

    17x8 "Base" 99-04 GT wheel w/ 245/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+ = 40.25lb

    40.5 lb (wheel/tire) - 17.5 lb (wheel) = 23 lb (tire)

I'll post some pics of my chrome saleens later, and I just got a new 18x9 replica and the UPS shipping weight was 22 lbs tho that list has 26 lbs. Dunno why the difference, maybe 26 is OEM saleen  ?

Yes, OEM and Replica can make a significant difference. I think MattsDrag was saying that replica FR500's were under 20lbs, but the real ones were more like mid 20's or something (the list says 25). Replicas are not necessarily EXACT replicas in shape and/or material, so it is beneficial to weigh both.

That being said, if you could actually weigh your 18x9 replica Saleen, that would be great... and I will note that it is a replica. Also, please include any tire weights that you can and also the brand of the replica.

    Thanks Gray

One vote for this to be stickied. Way too much good info to have to filter through a pile of useless info to get to.

    good thread.
I don't know the weight of my wheels (oem machined 16's) or tires, but if someone knows one we can figure out the other. Won't be able to weigh one for a while though as I'm at school.
I can get pics of my new tires though: 225/55ZR16 Kumho Ecsta SPT's if needed.

If you want tire weights go to tirerack.com and click on a certain model of tire. From there click on "specs". It will list the weight of that tire in specific sizes.

    27 lbs.

Well my tires weigh in at a hefty 27 pounds so that means that the Saleens are roughly 23 pounds. Maybe my wheels are just going to be heavy because of the tire size that I want to run.

I feel weird saying my own thread should be stickied, but yeah, I know I've wondered what certain wheels weighed, specifically common or OEM Mustang ones, so I think this is pretty useful.

Also, KTBug pretty much solved the tire weight question, but I'd like to take it a step further and maybe post, for a few common sizes, what some tires weigh in order to do help people select a tire based on weight and performance. More on this later this post.

Well, I guess you should be able to just go to tirerack and see what the tires weigh and figure wheel weight from there... So, let us know when you get a chance to do that, and if you want to post a pic for me to link to in the list (even before you get the weight), that would be cool.

Nice... thanks for the info, KTBug... That'll make tire weights easy and help figure out wheel weights, too.

Like I said, sometime (hopefully soon), I'll make a list of tire weighs of common tires all in the same size, to help people compare. If they want a specific other tire size than the one(s) I show, they can always look it up, but a simple list would maybe help them shorten their list of possibilities quicker than if they went to every single tire individually on the site.

Suggestions welcome for the tire sizes to do this for, btw :)

That's not TOO bad, weight-wise, but the tire weight and the weight concentration so far out from the hub is what kills you.

Nice... those are pretty light. I'll add those when I get a chance.
